The RYA/MCA Coastal skipper/Yachtmaster home study course is taught on a computer. It is an advanced course that is ideal preparation for candidates taking the Coastal Skipper practical course or Yachtmaster® Offshore exam. As well as having some provision for revising the Day Skipper shorebased course it covers more advanced skills in offshore and coastal navigation by day and night, pilotage, meteorology and collision avoidance.

The syllabus is the same as the intensive classroom course however unlike the classroom course, this one can be taken at your own pace at home. It comprises hundreds of clever animations and is organised into logical topics. You will need to install the software on a PC or Mac. You are allocated your own personal tutor who will mark your assessments and final exams. You can always contact your tutor if you need to clarify your learning.

When you have successfully completed the course, which includes three final exams that can be taken at home, you will receive an RYA/MCA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course completion certificate. If you have enjoyed your course then you should consider enrolling on a Day Coastal Skipper practical course or an RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean home study course.
