This one-day course is designed to teach skippers and crew how to sail with an asymmetric cruising chute or gennaker.

The syllabus has been designed by Anglia Sea Ventures and covers rigging a chute, hoisting, trimming under various aparent wind conditions (including aerodynamic and stalled airflow techniques), gybing and lowering a chute including use of a snuffer.

We will spend the day practicing in the tidal estuaries and coastal areas around Harwich.

The course is designed to appeal to both new and more experienced skippers wanting to hone their skills.

At the end of this course you will have gained experience of handling a cruising chute and will have developed techniques that can be applied to any yacht.

NOTE: This is not an RYA course.

Other things you should know

If we have to cancel due to adverse weather conditions, you will be offered an alternative date. We recommend you take out holiday insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances, for example, having to cancel at a late date. Boating requires a degree of physical exertion so if you have any doubts concerning your fitness please make us aware. Please consult your pharmacist or doctor if you require seasickness medication. If you are taking a training course, please be aware that your instructor will need to be satisfied that you have demonstrated the appropriate level of competence before a course completion certificate can be awarded. Attending a course does not automatically result in a course completion certificate being issued. If for any reason you do not meet the required standard your instructor will provide you with an action plan identifying areas for improvement.
