This is an advanced skippering course for those who have considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.

It is not feasible to go straight from a day skipper course to a coastal skipper course. Students must have skippered yachts in a non-RYA course environment before contemplating this course.

During your time aboard, you will be living in the most spacious and luxurious sea school yacht in the region with separate living, sleeping and toilet/shower facilities. You will receive expert tuition from one of our experienced qualified RYA Instructors who is there not only to teach you but to ensure you have a most enjoyable time. You will have the oportunity to practice many aspects of skippering the yacht including passage planning, day and night pilotage, sail trim, advanced boat handling manouvres under power and sail and crew management. You will also assist in all the day to day routines on board. Each night we will stay in a different marina with each one having excellent shoreside toilet and shower facilities. Domestic duties are shared by all on board and at the end of each course we ask you to help clean the yacht ready for the next crew.

The course fee includes full board for the duration of your course, tuition, wet weather and safety gear so there is nothing else to pay whilst on board.

By the end of your week, you should feel confident to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day or night.

The minimum course duration is five consecutive days.

When you have successfully completed the course syllabus you will receive a completion certificate. If you have enjoyed your sailing experience then you should consider taking the Coastal skipper or Yachtmaster® exam.
