The J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race is the largest race of its kind in the world and the 4th largest participation sporting event in the UK. Around 1,600 yachts take part over the course of one day which circumnavigates the Isle of Wight.
The 2011 race is on Saturday June 25th with boats crossing the start line at Cowes in separate groups, starting every 10 minutes and heading in a westerly direction towards Yarmouth. The boats pass round the Needles Lighthouse, along the south-west coast of the Island to St. Catherine's Point and then up across Sandown Bay, around Benbridge then across Osborne Bay to the finish line back at Cowes.
On the race day you will participate in many aspects of racing the yacht including helming, tacking/gybing, main and foresail sail trimming and sharing domestic duties with your fellow crew. This is a definitely not a spectator event!
You will spend two days and three nights onboard and will join the yacht Thursday evening in Southampton for a briefing and course overview then spend Friday race training in the Solent. The race itself starts early Saturday morning and finishes Saturday afternoon when we will return to Southampton. You will spend Saturday evening at one of the many post race celebrations in Cowes (traveling via the IOW ferry) then spend Saturday night on board back in Southampton before departing the yacht around 10:00 on Sunday morning.
You are responsible for travel costs to and from Southampton and the Isle of Wight ferry to Cowes and for evening meals and any drinks ashore.
If you would like to join us for the sail to and from Southampton click here.

If we have to cancel due to adverse weather conditions, you will be offered an alternative date. We recommend you take out holiday insurance to cover unforeseen circumstances, for example, having to cancel at a late date. Boating requires a degree of physical exertion so if you have any doubts concerning your fitness please make us aware. Please consult your pharmacist or doctor if you require seasickness medication. If you are taking a training course, please be aware that your instructor will need to be satisfied that you have demonstrated the appropriate level of competence before a course completion certificate can be awarded. Attending a course does not automatically result in a course completion certificate being issued. If for any reason you do not meet the required standard your instructor will provide you with an action plan identifying areas for improvement.
A £200 deposit per person is required when booking. The balance is due 4 weeks prior to the course date. To proceed, click the Buy and Book button above. If you have already paid a deposit and you wish to pay the balance, click here. We are sorry but vouchers must be paid for in full.
